Mom, you are 60 years old today! …Now I know what you’re thinking… Wow Amanda, what a way to start my 60th birthday letter (and on the internet nonetheless!)… I KNOW I’m 60 now, but honestly, I’d rather forget.
I feel you in that mom and one day, Lord willing, when I turn 60 I’m sure I’ll share a similar sentiment. But I would like to reframe the idea of officially becoming “old” (your words, not mine) as something to be celebrated… at least for you.
Titus 2:2-4 tells us this:
Older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not slaves to excessive drinking. They are to teach what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children, to be self-controlled, pure, workers at home, kind, and in submission to their husbands, so that God’s word will not be slandered.
When I read this passage for the first time, I instantly thought of you.
Mom, you live out these verses each and everyday. You have been faithful in encouraging, serving, and ultimately loving other women well. You teach what is good, and what is true, and you do so gently. Not only have you taught me to love my husband and my children well, to be self-controlled, a worker at home, kind, and to be in submission to my husband in the way God designed marriage but you lead by example.
I have seen you, your heart, and your marriage to dad be transformed by living out these verses. Furthermore I have seen my life, my heart , and my marriage be transformed because of your faithfulness to teach what is good. You have been the hands and feet of Jesus and the world is a better place by having you in it.
60 looks good on you mom 🙂 I love you with all my heart.
It is my prayer that you feel loved and celebrated today. That you would view 60 years as a badge of honor. I pray for my sake that we have you here for another 60 years but even if we don’t, there is no doubt in my mind that when you see our Jesus face to face, He will say “well done good and faithful servant”.
Thank you for the love and encouragement you give me daily. For the blessing you are to all women that cross your path. Thank you for the years that you prayed for me even when I didn’t want you to.
You never gave up on me and I am quite literally ETERNALLY grateful.
Happy 60th Birthday Mom!
Love,
Amanda
